Post Industrial Landscapes And The Over Taking Of Industrialization

What Is A Post Industrial Landscape?

Post Industrial Landscapes are "Generally located in advantageous locations near city centers or along waterfronts and supported by existing infrastructure, post-industrial landscapes constitute environmentally impaired resources that need to be returned to productive uses, and reintegrated into the surrounding community" (Loures, 2015). Essentially, these are industrial sites under redevelopment that are reused in urban areas for different uses or more rarely the same use.

The Fear Of Industrialization

Before we dive deeper into the redevelopment of these industrial sites, We first need to discuss the initial development of these sites in order to determine what factors play into the "Fear of Industrialization". "The Machine In The Garden" written by Leo Marx discusses this exact topic which essentially refers to the sort of fear of industrialization and how as we progress in society we are seeing the “counterforce” which is industrialization overtaking the pastoral setting humans were originally born into, which is essentially removing the tranquility that nature brings to us

The Machine In The Garden,  Industrialization At The Cost Of Nature's Harmony?

The words ''Machine" and "Garden" separately have no relationship between each other, which is the reason when these two thoughts blend in an actual structure we no doubt see the machine in this setting to be "awkward"  making a "juxtaposition". Leo Marx's message or view in "The Machine In The Garden" Is that the our clashing craving for new modern power scatters the amicability of nature and makes disharmony. Leo Marx, states “ Mechanization, both literally and metaphorically, means disharmony. It separates the people from the lovely green landscape which has, or ought to have, a primary place in their thought and feeling. Between man and nature it threatens to impose an ugly, depressing, and inhumane community” (Marx, 1964, p.216).

Marx makes reference to the possibility of "agreement" and with a fundamental focal point of a "pastoral Ideal". In the present' society we have been molded to trust that the possibility of a "great" or "correct" world is one that corresponds with an idealistic culture as opposed to a peaceful or a rural setting.

However,  there will always be individuals who discover a lasting sense of harmony and would prefer to see society work in these rural settings. Be that as it may, these equivalent individuals are starting to find disharmony in these provincial settings due to most of humankind looking for industrialization. Subsequently, making views like the ones displayed above more noticeable in these peaceful settings and basically "destroying" the importance of real essence and true nature..

So, Tear Industrial Landscapes Down? Or Redevelop Them With The Goal Of Modernization?

Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord was originally a coal and steel production plant based in Duisburg, Germany that was eventually abandoned and closed down in 1985. Since its closure, the site as well as it's surrounding areas were heavily polluted and contaminated from it's prior use of producing coal and steel which is the reason that its redevelopment was deemed to be a park as a way of industrializing and purifying the community to represent modern growth.

Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord was once viewed as a factory for coal and steel workers, extremely difficult work, contamination and so forth, yet presently is viewed as a center part of the city's modernization and public activity. Post Industrial Landscapes are incredible models that show how us that old and abandoned buildings, landscapes or regions in any given city are not simply "memories of the past" that are expected to be teared down to grandstand the modernization and urbanization of your city, yet rather open doors which can be readapted to exhibit the movement and upsides of your social orders modernization and urbanization.
